Amethyst Demonstration school is off to a great beginning for our new school year.
Our students had a great time getting to know one another as they participated in team building activities during our school trip. Students problem solved together as they created shelters, strategized while playing Capture the Flag and collaborated during Orienteering. Friendships have continued to grow over the past few weeks and students are gaining a sense of belonging in our community.
Students have taken an active role helping at various events at Amethyst.
We hosted an Open House for family and community members interested in learning more about our school and program. We held our first School Council Meeting and parents are eager to contribute to making this an outstanding year.
Our students have been engaged in understanding themselves as learners by identifying their Executive Function profile. Through class discussions and completing an E.F. survey, they are working toward understanding their barriers and strategies so they can take an active role in becoming a more efficient learner and continue to build their self-confidence.
Amethyst Student Lodging recently held a successful School BBQ on September 25th, bringing together families, lodging staff, and school staff for an evening of fun, food, and community-building. It was a great opportunity for everyone to connect in a relaxed setting and strengthen our sense of community.
In an effort to foster leadership and community spirit, we are forming a Student Council in student lodging this year. Two representatives from each dorm help plan events and brainstorm ways to improve the lodging experience. These students will play an important role in representing their peers and making the dorm experience even better.
The Amethyst Student Lodging continues with the weekly Social Skills Program every Thursday, focusing on key life skills such as self-awareness, goal setting, and perseverance. Starting November 4th, we will introduce four Clubs, where students can participate in activities based on their interests.
This fall, we’re also planning Halloween festivities, including trick-or-treating for elementary students and Halloween themed activities in the dorms.
